The Lady Vikes had a great win against Stanton at the Reserve and Junior Varisty volleyball game on Tuesday.
“I thought we played really good together. We had the basic fundamentals down, took care of the ball on our side of the net efficiently, and our communication was key,” said junior outside hitter Jessica Kapels. The team had strengths and weaknesses on the court. “Our hitting was excellent. We put the ball where their players weren’t and that helped us get points and win the game. Also, we had a lot of girls ace the Mustangs. We could tell that they were getting frustrated with our serves, and that helped boost our confidence even more. But we didn’t do so hot at getting our passes to our setter. That caused us to be a little upset and we struggled with serve receive,” noted Kapels.
Even though the Lady Vikes had a positive win and attitude, there were also some things that they needed to work on as a group to finish even stronger. On the things they may try to do differently, Kapels adds, “Having more energy on the court. We played good and all, but we weren’t really too excited when we were scoring points. Nobody was really into the game that much, and I felt like that would have caused us to slow down a little.”
“We need to really work on our serve receive. That is going to be our main focus at practice. Also, we need to work on drop and drive. Our libero was having some troubles getting to the ball quicker, and that should have been the wings’ jobs. Lastly, we should work on getting to our base a little quicker so we’re ready for the ball to come back on our side.”
