The Lakeview softball team travelled to David City last night earning their first win of the season. The Vikings beat David City/East Butler 10-2 in six innings lead by new head coach Erica Zywiec.
"My pitches were falling where we needed them, and I was able to trust the defense," said senior pitcher Sabrina Steffen. Outfielder senior Bailey Sloup had a pivotal catch in center field. "We had a lot more energy going into the game. Our communication was better, so we made less errors," added Steffen. "Plus Rayna (Whitmore) was a vacuum on third base," said Zywiec.
Leading off the game with a triple in the first inning was sophomore Emma Williams. The team's 10 hits and 10 walks were a huge credit to the win.
"I have always had a very positive outlook on the season. This win should show the girls what they are capable of and give them more confidence for the rest of the season. They have to believe in themselves like I believe in them," said Zywiec. The Vikings took the field ready to rallying back after falling to Duchesne 14-5 and Centennial 10-4 last week. The girls host Wayne on Tuesday.
